Project Context
PPT Maker: AI Presentations is a production mobile and desktop application that automates presentation creation by converting source documents into formatted slide decks using generative AI. The application actively serves over 7,000 active users across iOS and macOS.
The Challenge
Creating structured, visually coherent slide presentations from raw documents (PDF, DOCX, text) is traditionally a time-consuming manual workflow. Mobile and desktop users need a frictionless experience that can ingest source materials, analyze topic hierarchy, generate structured slide content, and export native PowerPoint (.pptx) files reliably while handling subscription access and server load.
Architecture & Implementation
Shahmeer Samdani architected and shipped the complete system across client, backend, AI orchestration, and production release:
- Cross-Platform Client: Built with Flutter and Dart for iOS and macOS, featuring document picking, real-time generation feedback, presentation previews, and export controls.
- Document Ingestion & AI Pipeline: A Node.js and Express backend hosted on Railway parses uploaded PDF and DOCX files, extracts structured context, and prompts Google Gemini to generate structured presentation models.
- Slide Deck Generation: Dynamic slide creation utilizing pptxgenjs on the backend to emit clean, editable presentation files directly to the client.
- Monetisation & Subscriptions: Implemented RevenueCat with Apple In-App Purchases (IAP) and AdMob, synchronized via backend webhooks to Cloud Firestore for secure entitlement validation.
- Production Delivery: Managed end-to-end App Store Connect and TestFlight release cycles, monitoring crash reports and user feedback.
